DOVER – James P. Cannon, 92, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Elinor (Martin) Cannon to whom he was married for 71 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Masonic Rites provided by York White Rose Lodge and full Military Rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born July 6, 1922 in York a son of the late John W. and Bertha (Eisenhart) Cannon Guise, he was a 1940 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mr. Cannon retired from the Naval Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg in 1974 after 33 years of service. His Masonic affiliations include F&AM White Rose Lodge 706 and The Square Club of York 1052. He was a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791, NOP Alumni, and was a life member of both Starview Sportsman’s Club and Liberty Social Club. Mr. Cannon was also an avid fisherman. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cannon is survived by a son, Donald M. and wife Debra J. Cannon of Wellsville; two grandchildren, Melissa Cannon Workman and her husband Ed of Dover and Dr. Donald M. Cannon, Jr. and his wife Dr. Angela Cannon of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; and four great grandchildren, Zachary and Zoey Workman and Jacob and Cyrus Cannon. Memorial contributions may be made to York County Blind Center, 1380 Spahn Ave., York, PA 17403.
