James Melvin Jacobs, Jr., 74, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Hazel L. (Megonnell) Jacobs. A celebration of life service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Kathy A. Swords officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jacobs was born February 6, 1935 in York, a son of the late J. Melvin and Georgia M. (Gallatin) Jacobs. He was a graduate of East Berlin High School and a former superintendent of Aaron Enterprise, Inc. for over 17 years until his retirements in 1998. Mr. Jacobs and his wife, Hazel were married on December 21, 1952 by his father, and have shared a wonderful 56 years together. He enjoyed cooking and baking for his family. In addition to his wife, Mr. Jacobs leaves behind a son, Carney L. Jacobs of York; three brothers, David D. Jacobs, and Kenneth C. Jacobs both of Manchester, and Phillip A. Jacobs of Craley; two sisters, Doris E. Leas of Glen Rock, and Aileen F. Smith of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Rd., York, PA, 17404 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 2449 S. Queen St., York, PA 17402.
