James M. Hamberger, Sr.

YORK – James M. Hamberger, Sr., passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Manor Care – Dallastown. He was the husband of Fern R. (Snelbaker) Hamberger to whom he was married for 49 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Pastor David Woodruff officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Dallastown Home Cemetery. Born November 21, 1918 in York a son of the late Thomas S. and Lucy (Markey) Hamberger, he had owned and operated Hamberger’s Auto Parts near Spry. Mr. Hamberger enjoyed building and racing sprint cars at local dirt tracks in York, Adams, and Cumberland Co. He was an avid deer hunter, gardener, loved spending time outdoors and was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church. James also raised honey bees that produced award winning honey. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamberger is survived by two sons, James M. Hamberger, Jr. and wife Blanche of York and Wayne K. and wife Stephanie Hamberger of Birmingham, AL; a daughter, Arlene and husband Jim Perkins of Baltimore; a stepson, Paul Furst of York; a stepdaughter, Susanne and husband Jim Thompson of Dallastown; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Hartman of York. He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
