YORK- James Lee Payne, Sr., 80, of West Manchester Township, passed from this life into the loving arms of his heavenly father on Monday, October 25, 2021 at his residence. He was the husband of Barbara Jean Payne. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2021. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be held in Salem Union Cemetery in Dover with a full detail by York County Veterans Honor Guard. James was born in South Seaville, NJ on November 12, 1940, the son of the late Garwood Hopkins and Greta Annabelle (Heiland) Payne. He retired in 2006 from American Chain and Cable Company in York, where he was a quality control manager. James was a member of Bible Baptist Church and formerly a member of Harmony Grove Community Church. He graduated from Middle Township High School and the York Bible Institute. He was a Sunday School and Jr. Church teacher and regularly led services at the York Rescue Mission and Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and was an avid Penn State and Dallas Cowboys football fan. He served in the US Air Force from 1962-1966 including a tour in Seoul, South Korea. Along with his wife, he leaves three sons, James Lee Payne, Jr. and his wife Sarah; John Edwin Payne and his wife Chris, and Joshua Paul Payne and his wife Heidi; seven grandchildren, Madeline Payne, Grant Payne, Alexis Kerr and her husband Brook, Zachariah Payne, Elias Payne, Caleb Payne, and Hannah Payne. He also leaves two brothers, Garwood H. Payne, Jr, Joseph K. Payne, and a sister, Sandra P. Simmerman.
