James K. Bemis

YORK—James K. Bemis, 66, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at his residence in W. Manchester Township. He was the husband of the late Judy A. (Fisher) Bemis.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:00PM, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, PA. Officiating the service will be Certified Celebrant Allison R. Duke. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM-12:00PM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Born April 23, 1957 in Frankfort, Indiana, he was the youngest son of the late Byron S. and Ruth E. Bemis.

A United States Air Force Veteran, he served for over 20 years, did a tour in Afghanistan and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel in 2011. In his 34 years of service in the military and federal government he always sought justice. He was proud of his time as an attorney, being a Judge Advocate General and spending the last 25 years with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, Maryland.

He was an avid movie enthusiast, history buff, bookworm and Trivial Pursuit champion. He also enjoyed collecting books, puzzles, bad jokes and collecting comic books.

Mr. Bemis is survived by two daughters, Jaclyn Meyer and her husband, Theo and Kristina Tucker Weaver; one son, Bryan Weaver and his wife, Kristi; six grandchildren, Brittnay, Aileese, Matthew, Noah, Ben and Daniel; one great grandchild, Finn; one brother, Tom Bemis; one sister, Brenda Clendenin and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bradley Bemis and his wife of 38 years, Judy Bemis.

In lieu of flowers Jim would love for donations to a charity of your choice. He was a supporter of The American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy Association.
