James Joseph Joulwan

James Joseph Joulwan, 74, died on November 15, 2013 at his home in Memphis, TN. Born in Pottsville, PA on November 16, 1939, he was the son of the late Alfred and Alice Joulwan. He was preceded in death by a baby sister, Elmira, and sister Helen. “Jimmy” was a graduate of Pottsville High School, class of 1957. He attended Bullis Preparatory School and The University of Houston in Houston, Texas and served in the United States Navy. A natural athlete, Jimmy had a passion for sports, excelled in basketball and baseball, and was asked to tryout as a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. To his family he will be remembered as having an abundance of energy, a sincere smile, a sense of humor, an infectious personality… and he enjoyed cooking for everyone. He is survived by a daughter Allison Mironovich, Memphis, TN., son Jeremy Joulwan, Memphis, TN, son James Haberstroh, Horsehead, N.Y., sisters Loretta Cairo, Camp Hill, PA., Mary Ann Joulwan, New York City, Jacqueline Dougherty, Largo, FL, his twin brother General George A. Joulwan, (U.S. Army, ret.), Arlington, VA. , four grandchildren and eight nieces. A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 23rd in St. Patrick’s Church on Mahantongo St. from 9 am – 11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
