James Henry Carter

WILKES-BARRE-James Henry Carter, 70, died early Tuesday morning in Kingston Commons, Kingston. Born October 27, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late George and Minnie (Wilson) Carter. He was an Army veteran. He owned and operated Carter's Trucking Company in Philadelphia. He later owned and operated Carter's Bar, Wilkes-Barre, which was the first bar to have a lottery machine. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the PA Turnpike as a tollbooth attendant. James was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Betty Jean Carter; brothers George and William Carter and sisters Ethel Law and Janice Walker. Left to cherish his memory are his children and their mothers, Mario Carter, Warner Robins, GA, Roxanne Porter, Newport News, VA, Jamesetta Carter, Michael Holloway, Dianna Dobson, David Holloway, Denise Carter (Mrs. Hattie Carter), all of Wilkes-Barre; Meghan Carter, NY, Laura Carter, NY (Mrs. Jackie Carter); 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Charles Carter, Cleveland, OH, Dr. Russell Carter, Virginia Beach, VA; and sister, Jacqueline Banks, Fall River, Mass. Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with Reverend James Breese officiating.
