James G. Hedgeland, Jr.

RENOVO - James G. Hedgeland, Jr., 84, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1931 a son of the late James G. and Mollie (Wykoff) Hedgeland, Sr. James was married on August 20, 1955 to the former Anna C. “Cathy” Kennedy. She died July 11, 2013. They were married for 57 years. He worked for Piper Aircraft and retired from the Army Corps of Engineers as a dam tender at the Alvin R. Bush Dam. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Renovo and served as a Crucifier in which he held the longest position. James served in the Korean War in the Navy as a Marine Oiler on board the USS LST-344. He wrote an article for the Renovo Record called “Jim’s Journey”. He also played Santa Claus and was a reader for Anna Knauff’s second grade class. James was a member of the Renovo Community Choir, the Flaming Foliage Committee. He attended car shows and enjoyed collecting historical artifacts and photos of Renovo and surrounding areas. He also was a member of the Book Club at the Sportsman’s. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion of Renovo. Surviving are two sons; Mark (Anne) Hedgeland of Lock Haven and Steve (Mary) Hedgeland of Sayre, PA and three daughters; Kim (Larry) Vognet of Austin, AR, Pat (Jim) McGee of Montoursville and Sue (John) Schreiber of Pipersville, PA. 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. A sister Mary Grasser of Emporium. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 137 Third Street, Renovo with the Rev. Dee Calhoun officiating. Friends and relatives will be received one-our prior to the service. Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, North Bend. The family will provide the flowers.
