-WILKES-BARRE - James Gerard Grady, 76, of West Chestnut Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday in Hospice Community Care at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Ashley on September 21, 1930, he was a son of the late James and Catherine (Cray) Grady. He attended Ashley High School where he was a member of the basketball and football team. He proudly served in the United States Air Force where he was also an amateur boxer. Prior to retiring in 1987, he was employed by Cragle Tree Service. James also worked as a tree surgeon and foreman for Jaflo Tree Service. After retiring, he spent all of his time with his beloved wife, Rita, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage with on May 7th. James enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and was a big sports fan. He also enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for his family, where his children and grandchildren would spend the day. James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Robert Grady; daughter Bernice Grady; great granddaughter Sabrina Kresge, several brothers and sisters. Surviving is his wife, the former Rita Holleran; sons, Thomas Grady, Plains and Michael Grady, Wilkes-Barre; daughters Marilyn O'Boyle, and husband, John, Avoca and "Peggy" Grady, Plains; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, James, Michelle, Nicole, and Sarah, 3 great grandchild, Maura, A.J., Jordan, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
