York—James G. Campbell, 93, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services-South. He was the husband of May L. (Raffensberger) Campbell, to whom he was married for 71 years. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan of First Presbyterian Church in York, officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery with flag presentation provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born July 27, 1915 in Lower Chanceford Township, he was a son of the late Harry G. S., and Martha (McPherson) Campbell. He was employed as Plant Superintendent with Beacon Milling Company for several years, until his retirement in 1983. James was a United States Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was also a member of the Hawk Gunning Club and Manufacturing Association of York and enjoyed tailoring. In addition to his wife, Mr. Campbell is also survived by two sons, Joseph A. Campbell of New York City, James R. Campbell and his wife, Carolyn of Lancaster, two daughters, Martha M. Spillman of York and Julia E. Watson and her husband, George of York, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Honor Program, 3544 N.
