James F. 'Jim' Walker

YORK – James F. 'Jim' Walker, 76, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Urey) Walker to whom he was married for 56 years on July 14, 2012. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Hayshire United Church of Christ, 100 Haybrook Drive, York with Kathy Dunbar officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 10-11:00 AM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Born May 30, 1936 in Huntingdon, PA a son of the late William and Edith B. (Cramer) Walker, he was a 1954 graduate of Manchester High School. Mr. Walker retired from Standard Register where he worked as a pressman for over 45 years. He was an avid sports fan and coach, spending many years as a youth coach for Hayshire Baseball for Boys and a York Boys Club baseball and football coach. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs and San Diego Chargers fan. Mr. Walker also followed the Pleasureville and Manchester Central League baseball teams, as well as, Central York High School sports. Taking pride in his personal fitness, he would exercise by walking through his neighborhood and in local malls. Jim enjoyed bass fishing and loved watching cowboy movies. There was nothing more important to Mr. Walker than spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He and Mary Jane spent every minute of their lives together and took great pride in attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. In addition to his wife, Mr. Walker is survived by a son, Steven C. and wife Lisa Walker of Spring Grove and their two children, Elizabeth and Andrew Walker; a daughter Lisa E. and husband Daniel Leone of West Chester, PA and their daughter Alexis Leone; and two brothers, Lester Walker of Dover and Jerry Walker of West York. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny and Gene Walker.
