James F. Bean

YORK- James F. Bean, Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 after a courageous six year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Linda L. (Stambaugh) Bean to whom he was married for 48 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM, Friday, January 20, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with Pastor Aaron J. Kunce officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00PM, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the funeral home and from 10-11:00AM, Friday prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. He was born November 15, 1947 in York, a son of the late Robert G. and Dorothy R. (Walter) Bean. Jim worked as a supervisor at York International, Teledyne Readco, and MicronPA before his retirement in 2011. James was a life member of the West York VFW #8951, a member and past president of Vietnam Veterans of America #1032, Shiloh American Legion, B.P.O. Elks #213, First Capital Marine Corps League and the York Hiking Club. He served as a board member for Heritage Valley Credit Union. Jim started “ALLVETS” which records veteran stories. He loved helping veterans and thanking them for their service and was very proud to have served his country. Jim recently received the “Service above Self” award from the Rotary Club and an award from the Elks for his work with the veterans. He was recently elected as the District Field Officer for the Vietnam Veterans of America. Jim enjoyed dancing and lived life to his fullest. Mr. Bean served as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps in the 1st Battalion 9th Marines, ”The Walking Dead”, during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart for his service. Semper Fi Jim. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bean leaves a daughter, Christine L. Russo of York; a son, James F. “Jimmy” Bean, Jr. and wife Tracy of Belmar, NJ; three grandchildren, Connor J. Wine, Maximus J. and Alexander J. Bean; a brother, Robert Bean and his wife Carol of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Pat Christian and her husband, Harlie of Wrightsville, Joyce Kelkis and her husband, Frank of York, and Cathy Malstrom and her husband Glen of Chincoteague, VA; and numerous nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Committee at B.P.O.Elks #213, 223 N. George St., York, PA 17401.
