James E. Kreeger

YORK- James E. Kreeger, 66, passed away suddenly, but peacefully at home on Thursday December 31st 2015. He was deeply loved by his family. He was born February 21st 1949 in York son of the late Gertrude (Brickner) Heck and stepfather Russel Heck. Jim was a York Catholic High School graduate and a member of St. Joseph Parrish of York. He retired from American Chain and Cable (ACCO) in 2006, where he was a long term union president. Shortly after retirement, he became ill with cancer and heart failure. His illness took a major toll on his life but his demeanor afforded him the ability to fight back and then to give back to all of the people who helped him. After pushing his illness aside, to the amazement of his doctors, Jim was able to live a very productive life valuing every moment and maximizing his time with family and friends. He went to work at York Hospital as a volunteer so he could help those in need and cherished the many relationships he made during his time there. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Brenda of 46 years and family including his son Brian and his wife Dawn of York; his daughters Tonya Zweier and her husband Anthony of Wallingford, Pa, and Amanda Burt and her husband Nicholas of York; seven precious grandchildren whom he adored, Jennifer Pierce and her husband Tony, Alexander Kreeger and his wife Angel, Gianna, Gabriella and Alexandra Zweier, and Brady and Dalton Burt; brother Walter Kreeger; sister Barbara (Heck) Huppman and brother Michael Heck. He had many nieces and nephews who were very important to him. Jim was preceded in death by a brother Earl Kreeger and sister Gloria Staufer. Jim’s family meant everything to him and they were his world. He was ever so proud of them and their individual successes in life. If they were ever in need of anything he was there and they all knew that. He spent many years coaching his children’s sports teams and the lives of his children were heavily impacted by this as well as those who were coached by him. He loved his Philadelphia sports teams and also loved watching his grandchildren participate in numerous sporting activities. He looked forward each year with passionate anticipation to family beach trips in July. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd.. A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery.
