James D. 'Jim' Shaffer

MILTON - Jim (James D.) Shaffer, 65, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at his home. He was born on July 24, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Nelson R. and Jeanne (Deewall) Shaffer. Surviving is his wife, Linda L. “Lindy” (Laughead), whom he married in 1998 and celebrated 13 years as husband and wife, and one sister and brother-in-law; Karen and Henry Martin of North Carolina. Raised in Montgomery, he attended and graduated from Montgomery Area High School in 1964. He was well known for his trumpet playing in the school band and dance bands as well. He went on to graduate from PSP in Philadelphia in 1970 as a Pharmacist. He spent 42 years working for Rea and Derrick, Peoples, and lastly, CVS Pharmacy in Watsontown. He retired in 2008. He was currently a part time associate at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service. Jim got his first bloodhound in 1972. He trained her and went on to own and train 12 bloodhounds in his 40 year trailing career. He has received numerous awards and citations for his service. He served as president of the National Police Bloodhound Association. Additionally, he has instructed handlers throughout the country. His other passions were his 1969 Land Rover Series II, his antique radios, running and competing in 5K races and bringing fiddles back to life. He loved to share his collections of “stuff” with anyone who was interested. And he was always proud of his corn crop! A celebration of life tribute service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton. Certified Celebrant Lou Sibula will officiate the service. There will be a gathering of family and friends 2 hours prior, from 1 to 3 at the funeral home. All other services will be private at the convenience of the family. Jim would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to The American Bloodhound Club Health Foundation, (indicate in memory of Jim Shaffer) and mail to Lynne Aguirre, ABC Treasurer, 1278 Bridgeport Rd., Corona, CA 92882-5864.
