James Clayton Evans

James Clayton Evans, 75, was called by his Lord after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer on September 25, 2018. He was the son of the late Clayton L. and Annamae (Davidson) Evans, born on October 2, 1942 in Wilkes Barre. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda L. (Tarbert) Evans, a sister Janice Oaster and her fiancé, Jason Gross, a brother Jay Evans and his wife, Bonnie, his cherished nieces and nephews, Michael and wife Kathy Oaster, Brian and wife Robin Oaster, Carrie Graff and husband Daniel, Kate Evans, great nieces and nephews Zachary, Adam, Kelty, Autumn and Winter Oaster and Madison, Clayton and Daniel Graff Jr.. Cousins include Eugene Hester, Gerald and his wife Rebecca Hester, Susan Rawlings, Sally Lapides and Scott Evans and their families. We will all miss his presence in our lives. Jim was a graduate of Littlestown (PA) High School, Class of 1960 and earned an Associate Degree from York Junior College, Bachelor of Science from The Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from York College of Pennsylvania. He was a CPA and was employed in that profession by Seligman Freedman and Company, Pace Resources, York, PA, and retired after 16 years from Zell Brothers in Red Lion. Jim served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, spending 24 months in Anchorage, Alaska. Jim was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion where he served as Financial Secretary and related committees for fifteen years, and the Administrative Council. He also participated in numerous fund raising projects and served as a communion usher. Jim particularly enjoyed many weekend trips to Penn State in support of the football and women’s volleyball teams, He missed only a few home football games in 42 years, and had many friends in the Penn State family. Jim was also involved as an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA, serving as a volunteer during the year and especially as a Coordinator for the World War II Weekend in June for the past 27 years. Jim will be fondly remembered for his quick smile, sense of humor and kind words for everyone he encountered. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 10 to 11AM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at the church, with pastors, The Rev. Ronald Doverspike and The Rev. Mark Williams officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested memorial contributions in his name to Bethany UMC, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA 17356 or the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, 11 Museum Drive, Reading, PA 19605.
