THOMASVILLE – James B. Uhl, 90, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community. He was the husband of Patricia (Miller) Uhl to whom he was married for 63 years. Tribute services will be private with burial in Paradise Holtzschwamm Union Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Uhl was born on September 30, 1931 in Philadelphia; the son of the late Friend E. and Margaret A. (Birkett) Uhl, he was a graduate of Greene-Dreher High School in Newfoundland, PA. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He also continued his engineering studies at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Uhl was an Associate Professor of Engineering at Penn State University for 31 years until his retirement in 1996. He had previously worked at the York Division of Borg-Warner, Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing in LaPorte, IN and Soil Conservation Service in Mercer, PA. Always a farmer at heart, Mr. Uhl’s avocation was raising angus cattle on his farm in Thomasville. He had been a member and Past President of The Engineering Society of York; Alpha Zeta Fraternity, and was an honorary member of both Tau Beta Pi Engineering and Gamma Sigma Delta Agriculture fraternities. Mr. Uhl was a member of The Faith Community of The Brethren Home. He was a US Army veteran of The Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Uhl is survived by a son, Jonathan T. Uhl and wife Cordelia Ontiveros of La Habra, CA; two daughters, Katherine U. Keller and husband Joseph of Cary, NC and Martha U. Dudley and husband Taylor of Boulder, CO; two granddaughters, Laura and Abigail Keller; a brother, George Uhl, of Newfoundland; and a sister, Virginia Rider of Mechanicsburg, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to Penn State’s College of Ag General Scholarship, with checks being made out to Penn State (College of Ag General Scholarship in memo) and mailed to 240 Ag Admin.
