James A. Mease

YORK – James A. Mease, 98, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn E. (Walter) Mease. Born January 26, 1919 in York, a son of the late Albert and Josephine (Mutzabaugh) Mease, he was a 1937 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mr. Mease retired from Pennsy Supply in 1981. Following his retirement, he continued to work alongside his sons in their automobile sales business and then part-time at AAA for 25 years until age 97. James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 213; Shiloh American Legion; West York VFW; and Viking Athletic Assoc. Mr. Mease was an avid golfer and enjoyed singing with the White Rose Chorus. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Mease is survived by a son, Lind D. and wife Virginia Mease of Hellam; a daughter, Dodie J. and husband Barry Pottorff of York; five grandchildren, Pamela Mease, James A. Mease, II and wife Melissa, Steven and wife Cindy Mease, Barry and wife Heidi Mease, and Lisa and husband James Hupp; six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; special nieces and nephews including Gloria Hafer, James Schlosser, and Butch Senft; and many other special family and friends. He was preceded in death by two sons, James E. and Barry A. Mease; and two sisters, Dorothy and Ruth. At the request of Mr. Mease, funeral services and burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
