TROY- James A. “Jim” Gustin, 88, of Troy, PA passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Troy Community Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Annis (Smith) Gustin. The couple married November 1, 1974 and had 37 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 4:00-7:45 PM on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. Jim’s Masonic brothers of the Trojan Lodge #306 will give a Masonic service at 7:45 PM on Monday night at the funeral home. The funeral service to honor Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 31st at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, 1030 West Main Street Troy, PA with Pastors Jack Felt and Bill Bardo officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard. Jim was born on November 5, 1923 in Troy, son of the late Dr. G.H. and Fanny (McMahon) Gustin. He was a Troy High School graduate and attended Penn State University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Jim served his country in World War II as part of the invading forces of North Africa, Italy, and France. After the war Jim came back home to Troy to become a successful businessman for over 60 years. He was the owner/operator of Edgewood Farms and Restaurant. Even after selling the businesses, Jim stayed on to help with them until 2009, when he was 85 years old. He was an over 65-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, and was a 60 year member of both the American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #8675 in Troy. He was a member of Trojan Lodge #306 of Free & Accepted Masons, Troy Royal Arch Chapter #261, and the Valleys of Towanda and Williamsport Scottish Rite. Jim was a member of the Troy Lions Club and was a Melvin B. Jones Award recipient, a member of the Wheel Inn, and was a past member of the Troy Area School District Foundation and the Troy Booster Club. Jim enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and his trips up to his cottage on Lake Ondawa. Jim is survived by his loving wife Annis, his daughters: Vicki Gustin and her companion Joe Webby of Mountain Top, PA, Cindy Shaylor of Troy, Denise Metzger of Alexandria, VA, Yalonda (Duane) Pick of Troy, his grandchildren: Chad (Shannon) Shaylor, Andrea (Adam) Herman, Jenna (David) Van Loon, Chelsea, Megan, Kaylie, and Marlee Pick, his great grandchildren: Micah Van Loon, Reese Shaylor, Luke Van Loon, Aubree Shaylor, and Silas Van Loon, his brother Richard “Dick” (Loretta) Gustin of Troy, his sister Frances Zimmerman of Florida, along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Aletha “Tiny” (Stone) Gustin who passed away in 1973, his granddaughter Allyson Marie Pick who passed away in 1989, his sisters Eleanor Eves and Jane Kemp, and his step brothers Harold and Harden Gustin.
