James A. Burr

WELLSBURG, NY - James A. Burr, Age 77, of Gillett, PA passed away at home peacefully on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Jim was born December 11, 1932 in Canton, PA son of the late Paul E. Sr. and Ellen (Beechey) Burr Wooster. Jim was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served his country in the Korean Conflict. He married the former JoAnn McKee on June 29, 1968 and they enjoyed 42 years together. Jim was retired from the Elmira City School District where he taught Health and Science at Ernie Davis Middle School. Jim enjoyed sports and remained active by coaching, umpiring Little League and refereeing high school football. Jim is survived by his loving wife JoAnn Burr, a son Jeffrey Burr of Harrisburg, PA, sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Ed Navone of Canton, PA, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul E. Burr, Jr. Family and friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Roberts Funeral Home Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the funeral home with Reverend James Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Bentley Creek Cemetery.
