Jack Leroy Markle

YORK NEW SALEM - Jack LeRoy Markle, 70, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of Marie (Calaman) Markle who died August 4, 1975. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. Betty Fundalewicz, a Compassionate Care Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Union Cemetery, York New Salem. Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Markle was born March 18, 1937, in York New Salem. He was the son of the late Harry and Esther (Hemprehly) Markle. He had been a truck driver with the former W. W. Walters Trucking Company in York and later retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. Following his retirement from Caterpillar, he purchased the Rose Haven Restaurant in York and operated it for 19 years until selling it to the Prince Athletic Association in 2002. Mr. Markle attended West York Area Senior High School and was a member of the Prince Athletic Association, the Viking Athletic Association, the White Rose Motorcycle Association and the NDHP Bikers Group. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved country music, playing guitar with local country and bluegrass bands. Mr. Markle leaves a son, Scott Markle of Seven Valleys; two daughters, Tanya Crawford of Seven Valleys and Judy Goodling of Spring Grove; three grandchildren, Shawn Goodling, Brandy Goodling and Hunter Markle; a brother, Spurgeon Markle of Ortanna; and four nephews.
