YORK- Jack H. Thornton, 84, of Windsor Township, formerly of Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis L. (Zearfoss) Thornton. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2017. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at New Life Presbyterian Church, 970 Cape Horn Rd. in York, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. The Reverend Erik David Swanson will be officiating at the service. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military Honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Thornton was born in Pittsburgh on April 28, 1933, the son of the late Harley P. and Flora H. (Marhart) Thornton. He worked as a senior buyer for over 30 years at Fincor in York. Mr. Thornton attended New Life Presbyterian Church in York. He was a member of the York Area RC Club, Victory Athletic Association, and a Free and Accepted Mason with the Acacia Lodge # 586. He enjoyed flying model planes, golfing, hunting, going camping in his RV, and most of all spending time with his family. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Thornton leaves a son, Jeffrey L. Thornton and his wife Tammy of Carlisle; a daughter, Sharon L. Jennings and her husband Chuck of Red Lion; four grandchildren, Chad, Tara, Dustin, and Hayden; three great grandchildren, Evan, Zoe, and J.J.; and his beloved dog Molly. His brother, Bert Thornton had preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Presbyterian Church or SPCA.
