DOVER-Jack E. Dawson, 79, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at York Hospital after putting up a strong fight for many years with declining health. He was the loving husband of Joan M. (Shaw) Dawson to whom he was married for 51 years on June 19, 2010. Mr. Dawson requested to be cremated and asked not to have a public viewing. A family Celebration of Life gathering will be held after the holiday season. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dawson was born August 16, 1931 in Mt. Wolf, a son of the late Arthur and Ellen (Seifert) Dawson. He was a former employee of Stewart & Tate, Inc. for over 20 years until his retirement. He also owned and operated AMF snowmobile and Indian motorcycle dealerships, as well as hosted snowmobile drag races on his property. A very outgoing, witty, and social person, Mr. Dawson excelled at all his jobs, which also included being a self employed trucker and a used car manager in his earlier years. Mr. Dawson was a U. S. Army veteran serving his county twice, from August 1949 to June 1950 and October 1950 to September 1951 where he acquired the position of training German Sheppards for the Military Police in Germany. He enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, and hunting with his son in the mountains. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dawson is survived by two sons, Jack E. Dawson, Jr. and wife, Charme of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jeff E. Dawson and wife, Tammi J. of Dover; two daughters, Jill Dixon and husband, Mark of Charles City, VA, and Jan E. Pandolfino of Dover; eight grandchildren, Lisa M. Dixon, Brett E. Dawson, Tara Dawson, Brittanie L. Sterner, Mark J. Dixon, Jr., Alexis M. Pandolfino, Dylan E. Dawson, and Savanah I. Dawson; two great grandchildren, Bailey and Sophie Dawson; a brother, Fred Dawson of York; three sisters, Betty Hocker of Camp Hill, Cindy Leville of York, and Barbara Sunday of Dover; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Tommy Dawson; and a sister, Beatrice Dawson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any children's organization of your choice.
