J. Gerald Jerry" Elfner

Dallastown - J. Gerald "Jerry" Elfner, 87, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Janet M. (Shenberger) Elfner with whom he shared 48 years. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Shenberger Chapel Cemetery, 10085 Chapel Church Road, New Bridgeville, with Pastor Patricia C. Bollinger officiating. Full Military Rites will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Elfner was born September 19, 1921 in Chanceford Twp., a son of the late Harry and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Elfner. He attended Red Lion schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he served in the South Pacific area. Mr. Elfner was a graduate of the Roosevelt Aviation School at Roosevelt Field in Long Island, NY, which qualified him as an FAA Certified Aircraft Engine Mechanic. He was formerly employed at Naval Ordinance Plant in York, Valley Airways in East York, Warners Dairy in Red Lion, Warners Moving and Storage in Red Lion, and United States Freight Co. in Washington D.C. before owning and operating Korner Garage in New Bridgeville for 15 years until his retirement. He was a life member of Shenberger's Chapel U.M. Church where he served as Superintendent, a teacher, and on the Administrative Board. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of F&AM, Valley of Harrisburg, and Red Lion Lodge No. 649 F&AM. Mr. Elfner is survived by a brother, Ray W. Elfner of East Prospect; a sister M. Lois (Elfner) Shenberger of Red Lion; a half sister, Dorothy (Gipe) Keesey of CT; a brother and sister in law, Paul E. Forry, Jr. and wife Doris S. of Dallastown; two nieces and three nephews; and close friends Joe A. and Mildred L. Kilgore of Brogue. He is preceded in death by a half brother Lloyd M. Gipe. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shenberger's Chapel U.M. Church.
