Ivan F. Walker, Jr.

YORK - Ivan F. Walker, Jr., 86, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his residence. He was the husband of Margaret E. (March) Walker to whom he was married for 62 years on March 21, 2009. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 8, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his visitation pastor, The Rev. Diane G. Wenthe officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born September 16, 1923 in Gettysburg, a son of the late Ivan F. Walker, Sr. and the late Maybell (Weikert) Walker, he retired in 1986 after 43 years from the former York International and its predecessor Borg Warner. Mr. Walker was a member of Viking Athletic Assoc., Vigilant Club, Shiloh American Legion, and West York VFW. He loved bowling with friends at Colony Park Lanes and was a talented handyman who enjoyed building birdhouses and model ships. Mr. Walker was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he earned four Bronze Stars, and the Korean War where he earned another Bronze Star. In addition to his wife, Mr. Walker is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. and husband Jeffrey Beaverson of Glen Rock; a son, Ivan Jeffery and wife Connie Walker of York; three grandsons, Brian J. Emig, Sean W. Walker, and Chad M. Walker; and a sister, Kathryn E. Kefauver of Hellam. He was preceded in death by a brother John Walker and a sister Miriam Criswell.
