Irene Margaret Renfer

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP-Irene (Margaret) Renfer, 93, of Suscon Road, Pittston Township, died peacefully Sunday, September 30, 2007, at her home. Born May 1, 1914 in Pittston Township, she was the daughter of the later Ernest and Mary Burke Renfer, and was a graduate of St. John's High School, Pittston. She had a waitressing career that included the Breaker's Hotel, Waldorf Astoria, Seager's and several other dining facilities that took her from the Pocono Mountains, Asbury Park, NJ, Palm Beach, FL, Vermont, Newark, NJ and New York City. She also worked for the defense department during World War II. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. Upon retirement, she returned to Suscon to care for her family and she worked the family farm along with her brother and sister. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Ratchford, granddaughter, Coleen Ratchford, brothers, Clarence, Walter, Arnold, Earl and Ernest, and sister, Marie Renfer. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Marie (Ken) Hoover, Kathy (Mark) Sudol, Robert and James Ratchford; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Renfer, Joseph Renfer; sister, Peggy Jean Renfer; nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc. 728 Main Street, Avoca with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Hawthorne Street, Avoca. The Reverend Phillip Sladicka will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
