Irene M. "Ike' Singer, 87 of Horseheads , NY formerly of Avoca , PA and Wilkes Barre , PA passed away on Friday December 12 , 2008 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads , NY . Irene was born March 8 , 1921 in Avoca , PA the daughter of the late Anthony and Irene McHale Clifford . She married her husband , Charles A. Singer , on June 2 , 1945 and he pre-deceased her on October 8 , 1992 . Irene was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Avoca , Pa for nearly 30 years , a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads , NY for 25 years , and a communicant of Holy Saviour's Church in Wilkes Barre , PA for many years . Irene was pre-deceased by her sisters Grace Clifford , Geraldine Curry , Jean Carruthers , and Katherine Golden . Mrs. Singer loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Singer is survived by her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law : Renie & Bob Hooey of Horseheads , NY ; loving grandchildren : Chrisy & Rick Newell of Horseheads , NY and Jessie & Joe Rich of Big Flats , NY ; beloved great grandchildren : Ryan Newell and Kaitlyn Newell of Horseheads , NY ; brother : Anthony Clifford of Nuremburg , PA ; sisters and brothers-in-law : Ann Carden of Taylor , PA , Mary Wallace of Tenafly , New Jersey , Theresa & Thomas Lokuta of Avoca , PA , and Owen Golden of Wilkes Barre , PA ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law : Frank & Lena Singer of Hughestown , PA , James & Penny Singer of Wilkes Barre , PA , Robert Singer , Betty Thomas and Sally Homecheck all of Avoca , PA ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Kniffen-O'Malley Funeral Home 728 Main Street Avoca , PA on Tuesday December 16 , 2008 at 10 AM . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday December 16 , 2008 at St. Mary's Church in Avoca , PA . Irene will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles in St. Mary's Cemetery in Avoca , PA.
