Irene M. (Matthews) Douton

MILTON - Irene M. (Matthews) Douton, 87, formerly of Hartford, CT, Manchester, CT and New Port Richey, FL, died on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Kramm Health Care Center, Milton. Irene was born on November 25, 1922 in Hartford and was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Ellen (Keogh) Matthews. She was a 1940 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Hartford. On October 6, 1945, she married the late David F. Douton who had died on July 20, 1994. She was a former employee of the Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford and Abair-Lavery Exterminating Co. of Manchester. Irene was a member of St. Joseph Church, Milton. She was a former member of the Milton Garden Club and Milton Woman's Club. She had volunteered at Evangelical Hospice and the Milton School District. She was an avid bridge player, reader, scrabble player and enjoyed gardening. Irene is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Sharon D. and G. Michael Craig of Milton and Sheila A. Cappalla of Manchester, CT., three grandchildren; Amanda E. Craig of Phoenixville, PA, Erin E. Warren of Sonora, KY and Ryan D. Price of Andover, CT, six great-grandchildren; Damian Thatcher, Jacob Thatcher, Zachary Thatcher, Tilar Warren, Patrick Price and James Lukow, two sisters-in-law; Helen Clark of Westfield, Mass and Patricia Matthews of Plainfield, IL, one brother-in-law; Edward Munnett of Liverpool, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters; Patricia A. Douton and Janice E. Douton, four brothers; Edward H. Matthews, Vincent J. Matthews, Rev. Alvin F. Matthews, OFM and Walter T.Matthews and two sisters; Helen F. Lavery and Kathryn Munnett. There will be a public viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton, PA 17847 and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester, CT, 06040. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at the St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Rd., Manchester, CT with Father Marchin Tluciennik officiating. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
