Ila V. (Grimm) Sherman

YORK - Ila V. (Grimm) “Babe” Sherman, 90, passed away on Thursday January 7, 2021 at her residence. Babe was the wife of the late Vernon Sherman. Services for Mrs. Sherman are private but a tribute service can be viewed on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 10AM on the Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Facebook page at www.facebook.com/heffnertributes/. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Monday January 11, 2021 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens 250 Chestnut Hill Rd, York, PA 17402. Born on March 22, 1930 in Tunnelton, WV, Babe was the daughter of the late Harvey E. and Julia M. (Ream) Grimm. She worked for years as a sewing machine operator with J&J Manufacturing. Mrs. Sherman was known as an avid quilter, sewer, baker, full of whit and neighborly love. Babe was never one to let someone go hungry. All of the children on their block knew exactly where to go for some delicious treats. She never met a stranger; everyone left her company with a smile. Whether seams or buttons, Babe was the go-to person for every sewing job you had. Babe leaves behind her two sons, Andrew Grimm and Sterling “Bobby” Toomey; a daughter, Joleen Shoff; grandchildren, Mike Krouse, Joleen Brown, Tony Grimm, Chad Keeney, Jessica Grimm, Holly Toomey and Jacob Toomey; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Lorraine Rumple and Delores Warner. Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her son Dennis Knowels; brothers Sam Grimm, Phillip Grimm, Watson Grimm; and sister Argyle Sheets.
