Huston E Schlosser

Huston E. (“Bud”) Schlosser died Sunday April 9, 2017, at his home after a long illness. Bud is survived by his faithful wife of 53 years, Dorothy M. (Dot) Hartz-Stram Schlosser, daughters Lauren Alvarez, Marni Aldinger, Erika Bailey, and son, John W. Schlosser. Like many, Bud was delighted by and thankful for each of his five grandchildren and, recently, a first great grandchild. Bud also leaves twenty-two nieces and nephews to remember their flamboyant uncle. Bud was a lifelong resident of York County having been born to Huston E. Schlosser, Sr. and Dorothy Rowe Schlosser in 1932. His sister Karen (Boyer) and two brothers, Bill, and John, reside in Tennessee, Ohio, and California, respectively. Schlosser lived a storied life. Shortly after his father died in 1949, Bud graduated from William Penn Senior High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served honorably during the time of the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he completed his education earning a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Millersville State Teachers College in 1957. He would later receive a Masters of Science in Education degree from Temple University. Bud enjoyed a long career as a well-respected, energetic, and much-loved teacher in the York City Schools, retiring in 1994 from Hannah Penn Jr. High School where, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, he had been the school’s Activities Director. During much of his adult life, Bud was active in local theater, the consummate thespian, starring in productions of The King and I, Dark of the Moon, Carousel, Bye, Bye Birdie, Luther, and Kismet. Family and friends remember his penchant for the dramatic spread into all aspects of his life. In addition to his theater exploits, Schlosser was well known for his love of and involvement with student marching bands, drum and bugle corps, drill teams, and band color guards. He founded some groups, led others, and was a mentor to the West York High School marching band for years. Characteristic of his indomitable spirit, starting at the age of 62, Bud trained for and competed in numerous Sprint Distance Triathlons up and down the Eastern Seaboard. His last race was in 2013 at the age of 80. During those years, an enjoyable part of his social life revolved around his almost-daily exercise regimen at the Athletic Club. The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received. In accordance with Bud’s wishes, there will not be a public memorial service. Those wishing to remember Bud may send condolences or notes of their memories to the Schlosser Family in care of Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc.,1551 Kenneth Road, York, PA 17408.
