RENOVO - Howard R. Lunger, 93 of Hyner, went peacefully to be with his Lord on August 19, 2010. He will long be remembered for his love of God, love of family and friends, strong work ethic, strong will and incredible sense of humor. The second of nine children, Howard was born in Renovo, PA on July 25, 1917. He was the son of Chester S. and Mabel (Moyer) Lunger, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by five brothers: Gerald, Ned, Dean, Robert Dale, Carl Alan and two sisters: Marie DePasquale and Dorothy Baldwin. On January 10, 1941 Howard married the former Grace L. Drake, who survives. Also surviving are his sister Grace (Doug) Cavileer of Manassas, VA and two brothers-in-law, Reverend Donald E. Drake of Dubois, PA and Joseph DePasquale of Baltimore, MD; children: Alan Lunger of North Bend, Beth (Glenn) Morrison of Quarryville, Cheryl (Les) Lucas of Hyner, Marvin (Victoria) Lunger and Lynn (Sue) Lunger, both of Renovo. He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Dionne (Greg) Werts and Gregg (Heather) Lucas, both of Hyner; Alyssa Morrison of Washington DC; Ryan (Shelby) Morrison of Centreville, VA; Denise (Michael) Marando of Baltimore, MD; Holly (Jimmy) Hartman of Birdsboro, PA; Renee (Dan) Smith of Perkasie, PA; T. Benjamin (Charlene) Lunger of Havelock, NC; Christopher Lunger and Dawna Lunger, both of Dallas, TX; and great-grandchildren: Ashten, Seth, Madeline, Mitchell, Rebecca, Aaron, Marlena, Gabrielle, Dayna, Kayden, Rylan and Noah. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, great-children and great-great grandchildren. Howard graduated from Renovo High School in 1935. He retired from Conrail Corp. in 1977, after forty-one years of devoted service. He was a wreck-train foreman and general foreman of the car shops in Renovo. He was an active member of Gideon's International. He belonged to the Western Clinton County Sportsman's Association and the Outlook Hunting Club. During his life, Howard was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. He was also a beekeeper for 79 years, extracting his summer crop only last week. He was known to some as the "honey man" who brought his bee exhibit to Renovo Elementary School, Clinton County Conservation District for student's field days and the Clinton County Fair. He helped with building the current Hyner United Methodist Church and was a devout member who served on the administrative council, taught Sunday school and was the Sunday school superintendent for many years. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Seventh Street United Methodist Church, Renovo with Rev. Robert Pickering officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.
