Howard Noah 'Dutch' Cleaver

YORK- Howard Noah “Dutch” Cleaver, 92, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Crystal E. (Good) Cleaver, who died on March 10, 1998. The couple had been married for 36 years. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd., York with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on August 21, 1921 in Mt. Holly Springs, he was a son of the late Joseph and Norma Cleaver. Howard was a wood worker for York Casket Co. until his retirement. After retiring, he worked for over 20 years at Weis Markets. Mr. Cleaver was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 101st Airborne Division and was a POW. He was the recipient of three bronze service stars. Dutch was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Cleaver is survived by one daughter, Debra Waltman and her husband, Jeffrey of Hanover; two step sons, Dennis G. Ness and his wife, Chris of York and Sidney E. Ness and his wife, Joyce of Galeton; one grandson; five granddaughters; two great grandsons; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Edward Cleaver; and three sisters, Jane Griffie, Helen Thumma and Margaret Richwine.
