Howard A. 'Red' Schildt, Jr.

YORK- Howard A. Red Schildt, Jr., 77, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Rest Haven. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Campbell) Schildt. The couple wed on July 2, 1966. A celebration of life memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with the Reverend Cathy Sherry officiating. A visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service. Mr. Schildt was born on June 4, 1933 in York, the son of the late Howard A. Sr. and Madeline F. (Brengle) Schildt. Red worked as a Sheet Metal Supervisor for Lyon Metal then United CoolAir Corporation until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army Mr. Schildt was a member of Red Lion American Legion Post #543 and AARP. He was also a former member of the Army Band and an avid bowler. In his younger days he was a motorcycle enthusiast Along with his wife, Shirley, Mr. Schildt is survived by three sons, Darren Schildt, Allan Shultz and Jeffrey Shultz and his wife, Donna all of York; three daughters, Aleta Smith and her husband, Richard, Marcie Shindler and her husband, Ronald and Karen Kopp and her husband, Donald all of York; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Weitkamp of York; and a nephew, Brent Weitkamp of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Trip Schildt III; and a granddaughter Amy Wagner. Memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.
