John T. Miller of Red Lion, a retired Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of York County, died on May 22, 2017 at the age of 90. He was the husband of the late Mary Auten Miller of Lewisburg, who died in March 2006. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Round Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 7362 Church Road, Cross Roads with his pastor, The Rev. Dr. David D. Feiser officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and from 10:30-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with a Flag Folding Detail provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born in East Hopewell Township on March 28, 1927, he was the son of the late J. Harvey Miller and Sara Anderson Miller. He graduated from Red Lion High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1945. Judge Miller was selected for officer training and sent to the University of Missouri. After the end of the Second World War he continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1949, and an L.L.B degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1952. He received a commission as a Lieutenant J. G. in the US Naval reserve. Judge Miller practiced law in York County as a partner in the firm of Budding, Yost, and Miller and its successor, Budding, Miller, and Boddington. He served as first assistant district attorney of York County from 1962 to 1969; was Solicitor for the Borough of Red Lion and Red Lion Municipal Authority, Fairview Township and the Fairview Township Authority, and East Hopewell Township. He was appointed to the Pennsylvania Criminal Crime Commission planning Council by Governor Raymond Schaefer in 1969. Judge Miller was a 61 year member of the York County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. In 1980, he was appointed by then governor Richard Thornburgh to fill a vacancy on the Court of Common Pleas of York County and was elected to a full-term as Judge in 1981, then was retained in the office until reaching mandatory retirement age in 1997. During this time he served for eight years as a member of the Ethics Committee of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges. After retirement, he served as a Senior Judge until 2007. Judge Miller served as a board member and county campaign chairman of the York County Cancer Society, and was a board member of the Pennsylvania division of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #6497 in Red Lion, F. & A. M. Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, York County Shrine Club, and Tall Cedars. He was a charter member and past president of the Devers Lions Club (later the Northern York County Lions Club) and was a lifetime member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the former Red Lion Country Club. Judge Miller is survived by four children: John T. III and wife Claude, Susanna and husband Efi, David and wife Lynne, and Nan and husband Fred; six grandchildren, Maya, Oded, Auguste, Sarah, Abigail and Benjamin; and two great grandchildren, Johnathan and Shahar. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Miller Bartholomew of Coatesville.
