Hilda M. (Strayer) Chronister

YORK Hilda M. (Strayer) Chronister, 94, died Saturday evening, March 15, 2014 at the York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Dr. She was the wife of Wilson E. “Tom” Chronister who died January 20, 1989. A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. Janyce Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Mrs. Chronister was born May 6, 1919 in Dillsburg. She was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Blanch (Herman) Strayer. She had been employed as a seamstress with the former Jason Shirt Factory in York for many years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in York and enjoyed crocheting, oil painting and assembling puzzles. She had also been a member of the Senior Bowling League at Colony Park Lanes where she received many trophies for her skills. But above all, her family was most important in her life. Mrs. Chronister is survived by her two sons, Richard E. Chronister and wife, Evelyn of Akron, Lancaster County and Donald L. Chronister and wife, Karen of York; five grandchildren, Christine Scott and husband, Charles, Vicki Rutter and husband, Tim, Michelle Moyer and husband, Todd, Troy Chronister and wife, Sandra, and Deborah Rider and husband, Craig; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Staub of Mechanicsburg.
