YORK- Hermie Leeanna (Sidesinger) Mergenthaler, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in York. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with her Pastor, The Reverend Darcy Reis, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. Born January 17, 1926 in York, Hermie was a daughter of the late Robert Ira Leland and Jean Caroline (Doll) Sidesinger. She worked as a waitress when she was younger, a security guard, and most recently as custodian for the courthouse until her retirement. She also enjoyed volunteering for hospice and was recognized as volunteer of the year during her second year as a volunteer. Hermie resided in the West York Community for most of her adult life and was an avid WEST YORK “BULLDOG” fan. She was a life member of the West York VFW Memorial Auxiliary #8951 where she supported veterans, youth, and community program for many years. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother following her children and grandchildren in sports and various other activities for over 60 plus years. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family. Ms. Mergenthaler is survived by five sons, George Hoffman and his wife Melanie of Thomasville, Wayne Hoffman and his wife Deb of Lancaster, Gary Hoffman and his wife Deb of Mt. Wolf, Mark Hoffman and his wife Julie of York and David Mergenthaler and his wife Dawn of Lancaster; a daughter, Gloria Jean “Jeanne” Hoffman of York; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; a brother, George A. Sidesinger, Sr. and his wife Phyllis of York, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Hermie was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sidesinger and a sister, Hazel Starner. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, Main 4 Attn: Therapeutic Recreation Department, 118 Pleasant Acres Drive, York, PA 17402.
