Herland 'Tom' Dinges

YORK- Herland “Tom” Dinges, 90, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Manor Care Health Services North in York. He was the husband of Margaret I. (Vannatter) Dinges. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on March 28, 2013. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at First Moravian Church; 41 N. Duke Street in York. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. His pastor, The Reverend Sayward Lippincott will be officiating at the service. The family invites everyone to dress casually for their comfort. Mr. Dinges was born in New Market, VA on October 29, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Bonnaker) Dinges. He retired as a Foreman for New York Wire Company in York where he served for 42 years. Mr. Dinges was a member of First Moravian Church in York. He served in the US Navy in the European Theatre during WWII. Mr. Dinges leaves a son, Paul T. Dinges and his wife Carol of York; a daughter, Joy D. Shepp and her husband Jack of Roanoke, VA; two grandchildren, Jody Lee Edsall and her husband Duke and Stacy Kipple and her husband Tony; five great grandchildren, Kacy and Kali Edsall, and Brayden, Austin, and Makayla Kipple; a sister, Dorothy of Missouri; and nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with arrangements.
