Herbert R. Mills, Sr.

ALLENWOOD - Herbert R. Mills, Sr., 81, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 2, 1930 in Pittsford, Vermont, a son of the late Raymond and Ellen (Swahn) Mills. Herbert was married and is survived by his much-loved wife, Eleanor A. (Pratt) Mills. They shared 26 wonderful loving years of life together. His military career spanned 23 years, having served in the Navy and Army. He served during WW II, Korean and Vietnam wars. Herbert was a proud member of the American Legion Post #251, Montgomery, PA. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and riding his John Deere tractor manicuring his yard and gardens. He treasured time spent with family and friends. Herbert is survived by his loving mother-in-law, Jean M. Pratt of Allenwood, PA. Herbert is also survived by his beloved children; two sons William (Debbie) Mills, of Katy, TX, Steven (Jamie) Mills, of Colorado Springs, CO and three daughters Patricia (Michael) Walker of Waxhaw, NC, Ellen Parchen of Missoula, MT and Anne M. Mills of Poestenkill, NY. Herberts dearly loved stepchildren, Margaret Young of Nassau, NY, Penny (Timothy) Howansky of Malta, NY, Nikki Brate of Colonie, NY, Richard (Michelle) Young of Brainard, NY, Regina (Bud) Staggert of Allenwood, PA and Pamela Wells of Troy, NY also survive him. One granddaughter Dr. Sara E. Walker, several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces survive him. A son Herbert R. Mills, Jr. preceded him in death on October 24, 2010. Three brothers and two sisters have also preceded him. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be private at the East Nassau Rural Cemetery, East Nassau, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton.
