York- Herbert Hoover Herbst, 79, formerly of Dallastown, died, Monday, April 28, 2008 at Normandie Ridge in York. He was husband of Pauline E. (Wagman) Herbst. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 30th, 2007. A service will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street in Dallastown. The Reverend Roger Mentzer will be officiating the Service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion and 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with a flag folding by York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Herbst was born in Mt. Wolf on March 24, 1929, a son of the late Albert B. and Lottie Mae (Stump) Herbst. He retired as owner and operated Herbert H. Herbst, Inc. in Dallastown where he was self-employed. He has been a member at Bethlehem United Methodist Church since 1947 where he taught Sunday school for the Men's Bible Class and was a trustee of the church. He was president and a founding member of Bethlehem United Methodist Men. He was a member of Gideon's International. He has been a member of York County Builders Association since 1968, where he was a past president. He served on the Vo-Tech Carpenter Advisor Committee; was a member of S.C.O.R.E. and remodelers council N.A.H.B. He was a member of Red Lion VFW Post 1446, Pleasureville American Legion Post 779, and a former member of the Dallastown Fire Company. He attended and graduated from Dallastown School District. He served in the U.S. Army Veteran in the Korean War in the 101st Airborne, 83rd Engineer Construction Battalion. Mr. Herbst leaves his daughter Lindy L. Holzer and her husband Brian of Wrightsville, two grandchildren; Douglas B. Holzer and his wife Amie & Danielle L. Savary and her husband Eric, two brothers, Charles A. Herbst of Florida and James R. Herbst of Texas, and a sister, Gloria Hersey of Dallastown. Memorial contributions may be made the Gideon's International, P.O.
