YORK - Herbert K. Herr, 93, of West Manchester Township, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was the husband of Lois J. (Richards) Herr. The couple celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 28, 2024.
Mr. Herr was born in York on October 16, 1931, the son of the late Charles H. and Margaret I. (Zarfoss) Herr. Before retiring, he was the Distribution Center Manager at Pfaltzgraff with 20 years of service. He also owned and operated H & A Trucking Company in York.
Mr. Herr was a member of York Bible Church. He was a 1949 Graduate of William Penn High School. In his early years, Herb enjoyed raising and showing pigeons, and was a member of the White Rose Pigeon Assn. He also served as a Judge at the National Pigeon Association's Grand Nationals in 1972. More recently, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, deep sea fishing, family camping trips and gardening. He was a Life Member of the York Fair, Viking Athletic Association, West Manchester Twp. VFW Post 7374 and the NRA. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a past President of the York Traffic Club. He and his wife enjoyed many winters at their home in North Ft. Myers, FL. Above all, Herb was a man of his word.
Along with his wife, Lois, he leaves two daughters, Karen E. Beaverson and Nanette S. Herr, both of York, and a sister, Patricia R. Robertson of Dover. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Stough and Caroline Sweitzer and his fur-buddy Sammy.
A graveside service will be held at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, officiated by Pastor Dr. David Sutter, at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
