NEW OXFORD- Herbert Franklin “Herb” Anderson, 88, formerly of York, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Jean Irene (Creep) Anderson. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on May 21st. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at The Brethren Home at Cross Keys, Nicarry Meetinghouse, 2990 Carlisle Pike in New Oxford, with a visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. The Reverend Mervyn Wunderlich will be officiating at the service. Burial will be held at 2:45 p.m. on Monday at Mount Rose Cemetery in York with full military honors provided by York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Anderson was born in York on September 2, 1924, the son of Herbert Franklin and Anna Margaret (Ernst) Anderson, Sr. He retired after 37 years of service from the former Buchart Associates, now BASCO Associates Architects and Engineers in York. Mr. Anderson was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, where he served as President, Elder, and Deacon of the Consistory. He chaired two building committees, was a long time member of the church choir, member of men’s chorus and was a bell and chime ringer. He was a 1942 Graduate of William Penn Senior High. He was member of the American Legion in York, Post 127, Viking Athletic Association, AARP, and was an officer and member of the Lions Club. At the Brethren Home at Cross Keys, he was a Deacon, served on the Village Council, was a member of the Board of Directors, served on the Fine Arts Committee, was on the Accreditation and Evaluation Committee and volunteered on numerous other committees. He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre as a Quartermaster 2nd Class and was a Helmsman on the USS Intrepid. Mr. Anderson leaves a son Timothy B. Anderson of York; three daughters, Karen L. Hoshal of New Oxford, Susan B. Anderson of Norristown, and Kim E. Jordan of York; three grandchildren, Jeffery A. Hoshal, Jill M. Holder, and Kristen E. Mekulsia; step grandchildren, Nicole L. Platts and Nathan J. Jordan; three great grandchildren, Kelyn M. Holder, Lauren E. Holder, and Ella R. Mekulsia; a sister, Anna M. Horner of York; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy L. Anderson, Madilyn L. Klepper, and Doris E. Weller.
