EDWARDSVILLE - Herbert E. Cummings, 75, of Edwardsville passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 6, 2009 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp. Born in Newstead, New York on April 3, 1934, he was a son of the late Olen and Gladys Yocum Cummings, Sr. He graduated from Akron Central High School in 1953 and shortly after, he enlisted in the US Army. After completing his enlistment, he attended Buffalo Bible Institute and Elohim Bible Institute. Herb continued his service to the Lord as a missionary in New Hampshire for 11 years. Prior to retiring he was employed by Main Endwell School, NY. Herb was an active member of Green Street Baptist Chapel, Edwardsville, which he helped to build. He was also a volunteer at the food bank. He especially enjoyed woodworking in his free time. He was preceded in death by his brother Olen, Jr.; and sister Joan Cummings. Surviving are his wife of 48 years the former Dorothy E. Schult; sons, Paul and his wife Patty, Milan, OH; Stephen and his wife Pam, Avondale, PA; James and his wife Lydia, Wilkes-Barre; daughter Mary Bruce and her husband Mark, Sr., Mechanicville, NY; grandchildren, Robert, Rachael, William, Brianna, Olivia, Joshua, Charity, and Faith Cummings, and Mark, Jr., and Benjamin Bruce; as well as a brother Roger Cummings, Sun City Center, FL; nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with Pastor David Miklas officiating. Interment will be private in Indiantown Gap Cemetery, Annville. Friends may call Thursday from 6:00 until 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Green Street Baptist Chapel, 25 Green Street, Edwardsville, PA 18704.
