Helene L. Spangler

YORK-Helene L. Spangler, 99, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at her residence. A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Prospect Hill Cemetery, with a funeral cortege meeting at the Pennsylvania Ave. entrance at 9:45a.m. Pastor Leonard Shertzer will be officiating at the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Miss Spangler was born in York on November 26, 1913, the daughter of the late P. Palmer and Goldie V. (Myers) Spangler. She was the Supervisor of Word Processing at the former S. Morgan Smith and Allis-Chalmers Corp, now Voith Seimans Hydro, where she retired. Miss Spangler was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as a secretary and was a graduate of William Penn High School. She was a member of the Half Century Club of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Rose Sunshine Club of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and Allis Chalmers Quarter Century Club. She enjoyed long walks with her poodles, Charcoal and Pepi; and enjoyed ceramics, sewing, painting, and various arts and crafts. Miss Spangler leaves a nephew, George Mohr of Glen Burnie, MD; and three great nephews, Thane J. Fake of Westminster, MD, Delaney Mohr of Roswell, GA, and Joshua Fake of Catonsville, Md. A sister, Eleanor (Spangler) Mohr had preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Evangelical Church, 408 West Market Street, York, PA 17401.
