WILKES-BARRE- Helen M. (Mackrides) Papadoplos, 84, of Kingston, passed away Tuesday evening in Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born May 29, 1926 in Astoria, Queens, Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Anastasios and Androniki (Paleocogos) Mackrides. She was educated in the city schools and attended Columbia University. On October 1, 1950, Helen married George P. Papadoplos in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. They recently observed their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a past president of the Daughters of Penelope Order of AHEPA, and a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Proodos society, the Queen Esther Chapter No. 90 of the Eastern Star, the Irem Ladies Auxiliary, and the Ladies of Potomac Chapter 41st Infantry Division Association, World War II. Helen was a beloved mother and grandmother. She loved to travel with her husband to the various Army reunions and AHEPA conventions held in various parts of the United States. They traveled by automobile which allowed them the opportunity to see our beautiful country. She is survived by her husband, George Papadoplos; sons Peter G. Papadoplos and his wife, Judith, Mechanicsburg; Anastasius Stacey Papadoplos and his wife, Judith, Hanover Township; granddaughters Stephanie Ewald and her husband Edward; Anastasia Staci Conrad and her husband Dan; grandsons Jason Papadoplos and his wife Ashlee; Nicholas and Christopher Papadoplos; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Hospice Community Care Geisinger South, Dr. Ernest Julius, Dr. Michael Grasso and Dr. Robert Potorski for their wonderful care. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Kniffen OMalley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a Requiem Service at 9:30 a.m. in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 East Ross Street, Wilkes-Barre. Father George Dimopoulos will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 E. Ross Street, Wilkes-Barre.
