Dallastown — Helen M. (Heindel) Ashton, 84, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at her daughter’s home in York Township with her three children by her side. She was the wife of the late Roy E. Ashton to whom she was married for 56 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with the Rev. C. Leroy Doverspike officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8 PM, Tuesday and from 9-10 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born December 3, 1928 in E. Manchester Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mamie G. (Reever) Heindel. Helen was a long time employee of Watson’s Hallmark Card & Gift shop and later the Queensgate County Cartique. She was named “Manager of the Year” in recognition of her dedication to outstanding customer service. Upon retirement, she was an active participant in AARP, Meals on Wheels, provided free rides to appointments for those in need, and was a volunteer for Red Lion school children’s reading program. She also enjoyed traveling to the West and visiting many sights in Utah, Idaho and Montana. Helen’s favorite pastime was feeding and watching birds of all sizes and species with her favorite being the Cardinal. As a member of Bethany United Methodist Church she was active in various church organizations including Four Fold Friends Sunday School class and the church choir. Most who knew Helen could always count on her for help. Her sweet smile and unconditional kindness will be remembered by all who ever met Helen. Mrs. Ashton is survived by one son, Dennis Ashton and wife, Lonna of York; two daughters, Carol Ashton of Pocatello, Idaho and Julie Wire and husband, William of Dallastown; four grandchildren, Marni, Kami, Jenna and Tessa; five great grandchildren, Kera, Hailey, Austin, Laughlin and Keiran; one brother, Kenneth Heindel and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne, Donald, Clair and Paul. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, Pa 17356. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Deanie King’s Personalized Home Care for their outstanding love and compassion during the last few weeks of Helen’s life and gratefully acknowledge the support provided by Compassionate Care Hospice.
