MT. WOLF – Helen Irene (Shank) Bailey, 95, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2023 while surrounded by her family and her beloved Chihuahua, Loleta. She was the wife of the late W.C. Ray Bailey to whom she shared 58 years of marriage.


Born May 15, 1927 in Saginaw, York Co.; a daughter of the late Edna McClare (Hoover) Shank and Glen Shank, she was one of eleven children. Mrs. Bailey had worked at New York Wire Cloth and York Barbell Co. Helen loved life and laughter. She will be remembered as being carefree and someone who enjoyed dancing, gardening, baking, fashion, and Chihuahuas. Helen had a radiant and infectious smile. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Manchester.


Helen Bailey, known as “The Great One”, is survived by four children, Deidre Promutico and her husband Francis, Lanya Bailey-Harrell and her husband Brian, Twila Mazero and her husband Joseph, and Torin Bailey; a daughter-in-law, Deborah (Kofalt) Bailey; and furbabies, Loleta and Nutty. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Cameron C.R. Bailey; her granddaughter, Aleta Bailey; and her great grandson, Lucas Bailey.


A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be scheduled at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
