WELLSBURG- Helen G. (Carpenter) Dillon, 92, formerly of Bentley Creek, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Towanda Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Harold W. Dillon who passed away on June 16, 1980. The couple married July 16, 1936 and had 43 happy years together. Helen was born on January 15, 1921 in Lindley, NY, daughter of the late Arthur and Leda (DeGraw) Carpenter. She was a homemaker, was a member of the Federated Church of East Smithfield and the Troy Senior Center. Helen enjoyed fishing. She liked it so much she and Harold would take fishing trips to Canada. Helen also collected angels and enjoyed gardening. Helen is survived by her children: Marjorie Leonard (Jack Cahill) of Fort Pierce, Fl, Norma (Ron) Leonard, Audrey (Joe) Smith, both of Gillett, PA, Ronald E. (Debbie) Dillon of Cary, NC, and Linda Diore of Gillett, PA, her son-in-law Richard Sherman of East Troy, PA her grandchildren: Steve Leonard, Tim Leonard, Mike Leonard, Ron Leonard, Jr., Nancy Vosburg, Lauri Chinn, Terri Sherman, Sandy Hannon, Karen Sherman, Bobby Sherman, Matt Smith, Valerie Adams, Denise Magstadt, Joe Clark, Scott Steves, and Dayle Lynne Steves, 31 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, her brothers: Ernest Carpenter of Corning, NY and Edward (Arthura) Carpenter of Concord, NC, her sister Edna (Harlen) Knickerbacker of Coopers Plains, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Beverly Sherman, her granddaughter Tracy Dillon, her great granddaughter Macey Leonard, her infant brother Harold Carpenter, her bother Tony Carpenter, and her sisters Dorothy Leach and Florence Doyle. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 6:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. The funeral service to honor Helen’s life will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 28th at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the Federated Church of East Smithfield, PO Box 7 East Smithfield, PA 18817.
