AVOCA-Helen F. Babiarz, 84, of Avoca, died peacefully Sunday morning August 12, 2007, at Kindred Wound Care of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Avoca on January 8, 1923, she was a daughter of the late George and Julia (Surowiec) Czerw, and a graduate of Avoca High School. She was the owner of Anthracite Cleaners, Avoca, and worked at Laura Fashions, Avoca, prior to her retirement. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church and their Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a lifetime member of St. Celia's Choir. Helen's life legacy was the love she had for her grandsons. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casinos. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; brothers, Stanley, Felix and Theodore Czerw; and sisters, Matilda Jacek and Anna Wanalista. She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Chromey, Plains; two grandsons, P.J., Luzerne and J.J., Avoca; sister, Rose Bator, Clark Summit; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:00am from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Main Street, Avoca. The Reverend Mark J. Bochinski will officiate. Interment will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home. Helen's family is appreciative of the excellent and compassionate care provided by the staff and physicians of Kindred Wound Care of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, the staff of Moses Taylor Home Health Nurses and Mercy Nursing Staff.
