York-Hazel L. (Sidesinger) Starner, 79, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Starner, Jr. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Viewings will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a Ladies Auxiliary Service give by the West York Memorial VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8951 held at 7:30 p.m., and 9 to 10:00 a.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Her Pastor, the Reverend Scott W. Shuffield will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Starner was born November 10, 1928 in Red Lion, a daughter of the late Robert and Jean (Doll) Sidesinger. She was employed with the West York Borough as Crossing Guard at W. King St. and Highland Ave., she touched the lives of many children for 34 years, until her retirement in 2005. She was a lifetime member at the Church of the Open Door in Shiloh. She was a member of the West York Memorial VFW Post 8951 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion, Shiloh Post 791. She enjoyed playing bingo at the VFW, collecting cows, and Jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Starner is survived by her sons; Thomas Clingan and wife, Sarah of York and Joseph Clingan and wife, Barbara of York; her daughters, Jane Anderson of York and Nancy Brenneman and her husband, Richard, Jr. of Spring Grove; her brother George Sidesinger, Sr. and wife, Phyllis of York; her sister Hermie "Lee" Merganthaler of York; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Furthermore she is survived by her West Highland Terrier, "Maggie." In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a first husband, Robert W. Clingan and a brother, Robert Sidesinger. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of York, 3417-C Concord Rd, York, PA 17402 and the York Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd. Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
