YORK - Hazel L. (Shoemaker) Stambaugh, 87 of Dover, died Friday, December 12, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Paul L. Stambaugh with whom she spent 50 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, December 15, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her pastor, The Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. A viewing will be held 6-8:00 PM Sunday, December 14, 2008 and 9-10:00 AM Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery. Mrs. Stambaugh was born October 29, 1921, in Rockingham County, VA, a daughter of the late Floyd Willard and Ethel Vista (Ritchie) Shoemaker. She was a waitress for over 30 years until she became employed by BMY, as a steel worker, until her retirement in 1990. Mrs. Stambaugh was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #8896 and the American Legion Auxiliary #791, and was also a member of the United States Steelworkers of America Local #7687. She loved to cook, enjoyed sewing, and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Stambaugh is survived by a son Doyle Ray "Butch" Stambaugh and wife Diana of East Berlin; a daughter, Joyce E. Miller of York; seven grandchildren, Matthew Stambaugh, Wayde Stambaugh, Wayne Stambaugh, Jr., Daniel Stambaugh, Helen McMillion, Lydia Sturrock, and Miriah Miller; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; six brothers, Owen Shoemaker, Floyd Shoemaker, Jr., Dale Shoemaker, Wayne Shoemaker, Donald "Duck" Shoemaker, and Leonard Shoemaker; two sisters, Shirley Eisenhart, and Connie Raber; a daughter -in-law, Carol Stambaugh of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and many brother and sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne L. Stambaugh, a granddaughter, Michelle Stambaugh; and a sister, Kathleen "Kay" Brandt.
