Seven Valleys—Harvey “Champ” Smith, Jr. II, 55, formerly of York, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his home in the arms of the love of his life. He has met his Dad at Heaven’s Gate ready to start the 1st inning of their new journey together. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:22 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Dr. Eddie D.D. Miller. A visitation will be held from 1-2:22 PM at the funeral home. Following cremation, per his request he will become a world traveler. Born August 31, 1959 in York, he was the son of Judy A. (Clark) Kertell and her husband, Charles of York and the late Harvey Smith, Jr. He was employed with Frito-Lay, Inc in York for the past 26 years as a Doritos line operator. Harvey was a member of the Vigilant Social Club, South End Democratic Club, VFW Post 556, 12th Ward Democratic Club and the Delphia Assoc. For several years he played softball for the Vigilant Club and several other teams, shot darts in various leagues in York County and when he was younger competed in roller skating contests. He also played on the York Barbell Little League Team that competed in the Little League World Series. An avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan, he also enjoyed riding his Harley and having a good time with his friends. Harvey is also survived by, his fiancée, Barbara J. Myers of Seven Valleys; his beloved sister, Lori A. Smith of York, nephews, Jason Watts and his girlfriend, Felicia and soon to be great nephew, Chase all of York, Jeremy Crist and his wife, Kara of Wrightsville and Dakota Myers of Spring Grove; nieces, Grace, Emma and Molly Myers all of Spring Grove; his favorite Uncle, Webb Smith and beloved pets, Chubbs, Deuce, Sophie and Fred. He was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail-N, York, PA 17406. Harvey had a large collection of team jerseys and would always be seen wearing one when he was out. The family is inviting anyone who plans on attending Saturday’s service to wear their favorite jersey.
